Paul P. Koro, D.O., Endowed Chair in Surgery
Douglas Foster, D.O., assistant professor and chair of surgery, is leading efforts to fund the Paul P. Koro Endowed Chair for Surgery. The goal is to raise $1 million by July 1, 2007.  Fundraising for this Chair has already commenced.  The Oklahoma State Regents of Higher Education will provide a matching $1 million, bringing the endowment fund total to $2 million.  During Koro’s 15 years with OSU Center for Health Sciences, he served as chairman and professor of surgery, senior associate dean for academic affairs and interim dean.  The endowed chair will serve as a memorial to Koro who was much beloved by faculty and staff and will be the first endowed chair for OSU-CHS.  Funds will be used to pay for an annual lecture series, research and other surgery department expenses.  Foster predicts the lecture series will grow into a three-day, nationally-recognized event.

Campaign Goal - $1 million

Scholarships
Scholarships are essential to helping our students succeed and achieve their medical goals and dreams.  The average debt a medical student incurs upon graduation is approximately $130,000.  Scholarships help lower education costs for our students and enrich their medical education experience.  The primary goal is to build the OSU-CHS General Scholarship Fund each year and to continue to grow other existing scholarship funds and create new funds.  Growing scholarships supports the OSU-CHS goal of creating and maintaining a student-enriching environment.  We have an obligation as a nationally ranked university and medical school to provide not only excellent medical education to students but the financial assistance needed for students to achieve their medical goals and dreams.

Campaign Goal - $100,000/year

Research
Researchers at OSU Center for Health Sciences are involved in several ongoing research projects as well as new, one-time projects.  Government grants, such as funding from the National Institute for Health, provide some funding, but private funds are needed to fill in the gap.  Funding needs are ongoing.  In addition, OSU-CHS is in need of updated and new research equipment.  Research is one of the pillars of OSU as a land grant university and is critical to the excellence of OSU-CHS in the delivery of innovative medical education and health care.

Campaign Goal - $50,000/year
