Business, engineering students & professors to benefit from funds

Oklahoma State University announced today gifts totaling $71,000 from Halliburton to benefit the Spears School of Business and the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology (CEAT).  Checks were presented to OSU CEAT Dean Karl Reid by Ron Morgan, Halliburton technical applications manager and OSU alumnus, and OSU accounting department head Don Hansen by Jeff Henricks, Halliburton accounting manager.

“This latest investment in Oklahoma State University by Halliburton strengthens a longstanding relationship between OSU and one of the nation’s premier corporate citizens,” said OSU President Burns Hargis.  “We cannot thank everyone at Halliburton enough for their generosity and genuine interest in the continued success of OSU.”

The gifts will provide $23,000 for the Halliburton Accounting Scholar Program within the Spears School of Business; and two gifts of $18,000 and $30,000 benefiting the Halliburton Distinguished Faculty Awards and Student Leadership Development Program plus the 2+2 Engineering Degree Completion Program with INTI College, Malaysia within the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology.

“Halliburton has a long standing partnership with Oklahoma State’s Spears School of Business and its School of Accounting,” said Bryce Tawney, Halliburton director of accounting services.  “The Halliburton Foundation’s funding of the 2009-2010 Halliburton Accounting Scholar Program further solidifies that relationship.  The program allows the School of Accounting to provide financial assistance to eight students with high academic merit and to reward a faculty member for outstanding research.”

 “Over the years we have repeatedly hired extremely well qualified accounting students into our Accounting and Audit Services departments. The Scholar Program will help to ensure students continue to be very prepared to succeed in today’s complex business environment and to recognize Halliburton as a preferred employer at Oklahoma State.”

A long-time proponent of higher education, Halliburton’s generosity to OSU has spanned nearly five decades with nearly $2.6 million given to a variety of academics areas across the OSU system.

“We are very excited to continue the Leadership Development Program as it will bring increased awareness among the College’s best students of the key role Halliburton plays in developing energy resources for the nation and world,” said Reid. “We are further excited to continue the 2+2 Program with the purpose of identifying native students from Malaysia and Singapore who are qualified to study engineering at Oklahoma State University, and to encourage those students to return home to work for companies such as Halliburton.”

“The funding from Halliburton helps create, foster, and maintain a high quality professional program in accounting (PPA) by enabling the School of Accounting to attract outstanding students and faculty,” said accounting department head Don Hansen.

“The Halliburton Accounting Scholar Program attracts bright and capable students into the PPA program and helps them realize that there are significant professional opportunities in industry, and, in particular, in energy services. The Halliburton Faculty Research Award encourages and rewards faculty members who publish original research in the highest quality accounting or business journals.  We are very appreciative of the ongoing relationship and the strong support provided by Halliburton.”

The OSU Foundation serves as the private fundraising organization for OSU, as designated by the OSU Regents. Its mission is to unite donor and university passions and priorities to achieve excellence.
