Colorado Native Gives to OSU, Receives Income in Return
Tiny Striegel’s charitable gift annuities provide
steady income despite poor economy

At 87, Tiny Striegel said a dependable income offers her peace of mind in today’s fluctuating economy. By creating two charitable gift annuities, Striegel was able to support Oklahoma State University while ensuring she receives fixed quarterly payments for the rest of her lifetime.
“I read about the gift annuity in some literature (the OSU Foundation) sent me. It sounded interesting and actually it was a win-win situation for both me and the geology field camp,” Striegel said.
Streigel’s passion is the Les Huston Geology Field Camp in Canon City, Colo. Her involvement with the camp started 60 years ago when her father leased his land to then-Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical College and the University of Oklahoma for the purpose of training and educating geology students. Since then, Striegel has done everything she could to ensure the camp’s success, donating the land to Oklahoma State University after her father passed away, providing yearly monetary donations and even volunteering her service to the camp, which sees nearly 60 students and faculty each year from five universities across the country.
Striegel established a $20,000 CGA with the OSU Foundation last November. The residuum is to benefit the Tiny Striegel Endowed Fund for the Les Huston Geology Field Camp, which will be used to maintain the camp in the future. Just five months after establishing her first CGA, she set up CGA at $50,000 for the same purpose.
A CGA is a way to make a gift to your favorite charity and still receive an income for yourself or others. It is a contract under which a charity, in return for a transfer of cash or other property, agrees to pay a fixed sum of money as long as the donor is or donors are living. Upon establishment of a CGA, the donor can also designate the use of the residuum of the CGA. The gift can be directed to an existing fund or create a new fund that relates to his or her passion.
Striegel receives a nice return on her gifts, which she says provides her a steady income in these uncertain times. The OSU Foundation follows the American Council on Gift Annuities’ recommended rates.
“I felt it was a good deal for me and the school,” Striegel said.

The OSU Foundation serves as the private fundraising organization for OSU, as designated by the OSU Regents. Its mission is to unite donor and university passions and priorities to achieve excellence.
