Oklahoma State University (OSU) Foundation officials announced today a continued partnership with the Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation of Ardmore, Okla. to conduct research aimed at strengthening Oklahoma’s pecan industry.
The Noble Foundation will provide $117,871 toward research over the next three years to the univeristy. Specifically, the funds will allow a team of scientists, led by Oklahoma State University Regents Professor Michael Smith, to explore how to best curb irregular bearing in pecans, a horticulturally undesirable trait.
“We are grateful to the Noble Foundation for funding this research,” said Smith. “Discovering new solutions to effectively manage one of our state’s most important crops provides value to producers everywhere.”
The partnership is another in a long line of collaborations between Oklahoma State and the Noble Foundation. Since 1972, Noble has offered the university more than $10 million in gifts and grants.
“The Noble Foundation has been an incredible partner with Oklahoma State University,” said Kirk A. Jewell, president and CEO of the Oklahoma State University Foundation. “With the continued investment from our friends at the Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation, OSU will continue to serve the state and nation with world-class education, research and outreach.”
Since 1945, the Noble Foundation has influenced agriculture by exploring and improving production agriculture techniques and advancing plant science through research and discovery
The Oklahoma State University Foundation is the private fundraising organization for OSU, as designated by the OSU Regents. Its mission is to unite donor and university passions and priorities to achieve excellence.
