OSU Foundation Gallery Showcases Photographs from Library Special Collections

Exhibition includes historical university photos, accompanying book pays tribute to
Oklahoma Centennial

Oklahoma State University Foundation announces the opening of Images of Oklahoma A&M College: Photographs from Special Collections and University Archives, a collection of photos from 1891-1957 from the OSU Library.

The exhibition celebrates the 50th anniversary of Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical College (OAMC) changing to Oklahoma State University (OSU) as well as the Oklahoma Centennial. The exhibit is on display in the Foundation’s Malinda Berry Fischer Gallery now through December 31.

“This collection is not just about places photographed on OAMC,” said David Peters, Library curator for the exhibit and coordinator of special collections. “Buildings and places have such significant meaning for many people. These photos capture an era and the exhibit brings them to life.”

The Library Special Collections has over 10,000 donated pieces. The OSU Library has one of the largest collections of its kind, but is always interested in future donations. Most donations are received by college departments or private donors.

In addition, a book to honor OAMC is due for release sometime next fall in conjunction with the Oklahoma Centennial, “The Campus of OAMC: 1891-1957.” The book, filled with extraordinary black, white and orange photos, brings to light the ever-changing OAMC campus and represents a variety of a small portion of the library’s full collection.

“A number of people have donated and cared for these images over the years,” adds Peters. “We strive today to honor tradition with the same care and preservation.”

Named in honor of the Foundation’s former board chairman, the Malinda Berry Fischer Gallery showcases Oklahoma and OSU artists. The gallery serves to strengthen the connection between Oklahoma State University and the OSU Foundation. The galleryis open to the public and free-of-charge.

The Oklahoma State University Foundation serves as the private fundraising organization for OSU, as designated by the OSU Regents. Its mission is to unite donor and university passions and priorities to achieve excellence.
