Project Second Chance
Unfamiliarity with higher education, inadequate transportation, lack of support and coping skills, and childcare issues are but a few of the challenges low-income students face when attempting to change their lives through higher education. The on-going mission of Project Second Chance is to provide educational supportive services to low-income single parents attending OSU-Oklahoma City to help them achieve their academic goals, thus, improving their employment prospects and quality of life. By providing a comprehensive network of supportive services, many of the roadblocks, which often cause students to fail, are removed.
Through the network already established with the Oklahoma Department of Human Services, Aid to Families with Dependent Children and Food Stamp Divisions, and local business, Project Second Chance identifies people at or below the poverty level who could benefit from this program. Once these individuals have been identified, Project Second Chance will assess and evaluate them educationally and professionally and provide counseling within one month of identification to determine program eligibility.
Throughout its first eight years, hundreds of Project Second Chance students have achieved outstanding success through this unique program that is breaking the poverty cycle of low wage, no future employment that faces many single, Oklahoma parents today.

Health Technologies Faculty Development Scholarship
The Health Technologies Division is facing a shortage of highly qualified faculty due to the retirement of approximately 25% of the nursing faculty within the next 5 years and the challenge of hiring master level faculty due to competitive salaries offered in other health care areas. Therefore, it is probable that the division will be faced with hiring nurses who have baccalaureate degrees and are willing to pursue a masters degree, or individuals who have clinical masters degree with no teaching experience. This fund is designed to provide scholarship support for faculty graduate study to enhance teaching effectiveness.

ESL Nursing Scholarship
Many students who enter the Health Services nursing program at OSU-Oklahoma City are students for whom English is a second language. In order to ensure that they are prepared to work in an increasingly global community, they are required to take a second test (SPEAK) for admittance into the OSU-Oklahoma City nursing program. In an effort to increase international recruitment and retention, as well as assist with their success in the application process of nursing, this scholarship fund is designed to assist students with the cost of the test, as well as provide a tutor for special support sessions to assist in their success throughout the nursing program.
This scholarship is one of the many OSU-Oklahoma City initiatives designed to address the acute and anticipated long-term shortage of nurses in Oklahoma and nationwide.
